The Mount Baldo region is characterized by an impressive biological richness, due to its unique geographical location and geomorphological vicissitudes. The chain of Mount Baldo, located on the southern edge of the Alps overlooking the plain, stretches 35 km along the Verona side of Lake Garda and descends sharply into the Adige River Valley. This determines an extraordinary biological diversity. The “ high naturalness” of the area makes it the region with the highest biodiversity per unit of surface of Europe.
Mount Baldo is characterized still today by an important agricultural production, connected largely to livestock farming and typical local products. The possibility of combining quality production and local processing and sale of products is an opportunity for tourists to buy products made according to the criteria of sustainability and enhancement of the distinctive characteristics of this region.
The territorial contiguity between Lake Garda nad Mount Baldo has led to the creation of equipped trails that allow tourists and hikers to safely access areas of great natural and environmental interest. The network of paths leads you from the shores of the Lake directly to high altitude environments, from the intermediate areas all the way up to the summits.
Thanks to its extraordinary natural characteristics, Mount Baldo is an ideal “open-air laboratory” for the different educational activities organized with the help of local educational facilities such as the Botanical Garden of Mount Baldo and the Astronomical Observatory of Novezzina. These structures, placed as they are in the context of a unique environment, provide special environmental education activities combined with alpine hiking and popular sports, like mountain-biking and paragliding.
Accomodation facilities have been strengthened and integrated with: the recovery and regeneration of pastures and alpine huts, trails accessible to all, information panels and blazes placed along the trails, rest and reception areas in the alpine huts. All this ensures a better use and enjoyment of the land and its resources.
